A clean catalog helps technicians make fast, safe choices. Use this guide to maintain brands, models, and compatibility.
Brands#
- Use clear, canonical brand names.
- Add a short internal description to guide selection.
- Provide a support contact if the brand has special handling.
Models#
- Include helpful display names and searchable keywords.
- Add documentation URLs that technicians can access from asset profiles.
- Record support notes such as common failure modes or repair tips.
Compatibility#
- Associate parts with models that are safe to use together.
- Mark deprecated items so technicians avoid obsolete parts.
- Review incompatible combinations flagged by returns or failures.
Data Quality#
- Merge duplicates and standardise naming for consistent search.
- Archive retired models; keep history for reference.
- Use SKU barcodes to eliminate manual entry errors.
Keeping the catalog current shortens diagnostics and reduces the chance of rework.
